Target Background

Function

High-affinity H(+)/sulfate cotransporter that mediates the uptake of the environmental sulfate by plant roots under low-sulfur conditions. Plays a central role in the regulation of sulfate assimilation.

SULTR1;1 and SULTR1;2 are two essential components of the sulfate uptake system in roots and are regulated at posttranscriptional levels together with the previously reported transcriptional control. PMID: 17720755
expression of SULTR1.1 is locally regulated in response to sulfate starvation. In contrast, accumulation of SULTR1.2 transcripts appeared to be mainly related to metabolic demand and is controlled by photoperiod PMID: 18400935
