Target Background

Function
High-affinity H(+)/sulfate cotransporter that mediates the uptake of the environmental sulfate by plant roots. Plays a central role in the regulation of sulfate assimilation. Unable to transport molybdate.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Plants prioritize phytochelatin synthesis during cadmium exposure even under reduced sulfate uptake caused by the disruption of SULTR1;2 PMID: 28486013
  2. The sultr1;2 mutation confers Se tolerance on Arabidopsis by decreasing symplastic Se and maintaining antioxidant enzyme activities. PMID: 22738972
  3. analysis of a regulatory model in which interactions between SULTR1;2 and OASTL coordinate internalization of SO(4)(2-) with the energetic/metabolic state of plant root cells PMID: 20529854
  4. STAS domain is involved in protein-protein interactions that could control sulfate transport PMID: 15718229
  5. the STAS domain is critical for both the activity and biosynthesis/stability of the transporter, and the STAS sub-domains correlate with these specific functions PMID: 16754669
  6. The transporter SULTR1;2 has a central and specific role in selenate sensitivity PMID: 17208959
