Target Background

Function
L-tryptophan aminotransferase involved in auxin (IAA) biosynthesis. Can convert L-tryptophan and pyruvate to indole-3-pyruvic acid (IPA) and alanine. Catalyzes the first step in IPA branch of the auxin biosynthetic pathway. Required for auxin production to initiate multiple change in growth in response to environmental and developmental cues. It is also active with phenylalanine, tyrosine, leucine, alanine, methionine and glutamine. Both TAA1 and TAR2 are required for maintaining proper auxin levels in roots, while TAA1, TAR1 and TAR2 are required for proper embryo patterning. Involved in the maintenance of the root stem cell niches and required for shade avoidance.
Gene References into Functions
  1. ARR proteins act as key node that mediate the regulation of auxin biosynthesis by various hormonal, environmental, and developmental signals through transcriptional regulation of the key auxin biosynthesis gene TAA1. PMID: 28931628
  2. In response to Al stress, ethylene signaling locally upregulates TAA1 expression and thus auxin responses in the transition zone (TZ)and results in auxin-regulated root growth inhibition through a number of auxin response factors (ARFs). PMID: 25052716
  3. Arabidopsis ckrc1 mutant encodes tryptophan aminotransferase (TAA1) that is involved in the indole-3-pyruvic acid pathway of indole-3-acetic acid biosynthesis. PMID: 21255165
  4. Biochemical studies revealed that WEI8 encodes a tryptophan aminotransferase, TAA1, in the essential, yet genetically uncharacterized, indole-3-pyruvic acid branch of the auxin synthesis pathway; TAA1 gene was found to correspond to At1g70560. PMID: 18394997
