Target Background

Function
RNA-binding protein which regulates transcription, splicing and RNA-editing. Limits the accumulation of double-stranded RNA by maintaining the abundance of the mature RNA transcripts that are formed from double-stranded precursor RNAs. Stress response protein that acts downstream of daf-16 in the insulin/IGF pathway to regulate longevity and the cellular stress response to osmotic, oxidative, proteotoxic and endoplasmic reticulum stress. Involved in the regulation of physiological processes including aging, fertility, growth and locomotion.
Gene References into Functions
  1. TDP-1 regulates lifespan and proteotoxicity through DAF-16. PMID: 25329970
  2. These data show that the primary function of TDP-1, an ortholog of the neurodegeneration-associated RNA-binding protein TDP-43, is to limit formation or stability of double-stranded RNA. PMID: 25391662
  3. It causes age-dependent toxicity to motor neurons. PMID: 23591130
  4. These results suggest that chronic induction of wild-type TDP-1/TDP-43 by cellular stress may propagate neurodegeneration and decrease lifespan. PMID: 22792076
Subcellular Location
Nucleus. Cytoplasm.
Tissue Specificity
Widely expressed in a range of tissues including body wall muscles, pharynx and neurons of the midbody in adults and larvae.
