Target Background

Function

TATA box-binding transcription factor. Members of the TBP family are differentially required to regulate transcription and development during early embryogenesis. Required for gastrulation. Regulates a large subset of genes that are ventrally expressed. Binds to a subset of promoters.

Gene References into Functions

TBP2 may be a TBP replacement factor in oocytes, whereas in embryos both TBP and TBP2 are required, even though they exhibit partial redundancy and gene selectivity. PMID: 15345743
