Target Background

Function
Necessary for efficient RNA polymerase II transcription elongation past template-encoded arresting sites. The arresting sites in DNA have the property of trapping a certain fraction of elongating RNA polymerases that pass through, resulting in locked ternary complexes. Cleavage of the nascent transcript by S-II allows the resumption of elongation from the new 3'-terminus.; Can promote the transfer of one strand of a double-stranded DNA molecule to a homologous single strand and thus may be involved in recombination.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Dst1, a homolog of mammalian transcription elongation factor TFIIS, interferes with NER-dependent repair of AP lesions while suppressing homologous recombination pathway. PMID: 28521214
  2. TFIIF mainly prevents Pol II from pause entering, whereas TFIIS assists with pause recovery, and quantitatively described these effects on the kinetics of transcription elongation by Pol II. PMID: 24550488
  3. Evidence that transcript cleavage is essential for RNA polymerase II transcription and cell viability is provided. PMID: 20417599
