Target Background

Function
Required for protein secretion. May participate in cargo loading by binding to COPII coat subunits and guiding SH3-bound proteins into a growing carrier. At basal transitional ER sites in follicle epithelial cells, mediates the exit of basal membrane protein such as vkg, LanB1 and Trol, from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to basal Golgi clusters.
Gene References into Functions
  1. PGANT4 is an O-glycosyltransferase that functions as a regulator of secretion and secretory vesicle formation in vivo by glycosylating the essential Golgi/endoplasmic reticulum protein, Tango1 and conferring protection from furin-mediated proteolysis PMID: 24799692
  2. Study provides evidence that TANGO1 is an integral membrane protein localized to endoplasmic reticulum (ER) exit sites, with a luminal SH3 domain and a cytoplasmic proline-rich domain (PRD). PMID: 19269366
Subcellular Location
Golgi apparatus membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. Golgi apparatus, trans-Golgi network.
Protein Families
MIA/OTOR family, Tango1 subfamily
