Target Background

Function
Involved in protein precursor import into chloroplasts. Forms a voltage-dependent cation-selective channel at the inner envelope of chloroplasts, which specifically responds to a transit peptide. Associates with both the precursor and mature forms of the preprotein.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Tic20 protein is much less abundant than Tic110 in envelope membranes. PMID: 21961525
  2. Tic110 is essential for plastid biogenesis and plant viability. It plays a general role in the import of nuclear-encoded preproteins as a common component of Tic complexes.[atTic110] PMID: 15829604
  3. The interaction of Tic110, Tic40 and Hsp93 in A. thaliana chloroplast protein transport is described. [Tic110] PMID: 15659100
Subcellular Location
Plastid, chloroplast inner membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
Chloroplast envelope anion channel-forming Tic110 (TC 1.A.18) family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in seedlings, flowers, leaves, stems and roots.
