Target Background

Function
Catalyzes the reversible transfer of a two-carbon ketol group from fructose-6-phosphate or sedoheptulose-7-phosphate to glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate to yield xylulose-5-phosphate and erythrose-4-phosphate or ribose-5-phosphate, respectively. Could act as a stress sensor involved in adaptation process.
Gene References into Functions
  1. These results reveal the crucial importance of the level of transketolase activity to provide the precursor for synthesis of intermediates and to enable plants to produce thiamine and thiamine pyrophosphate for growth and development. PMID: 25670766
  2. Results of the present study point to a role for transketolase (TKL) phosphorylation in the regulation of carbon allocation. PMID: 24328790
Subcellular Location
