Target Background

Function
Involved in mitochondrial metabolism by regulating the balance between mitochondrial fusion and fission. May act as a regulator of mitochondrial fission that promotes DNM1L-dependent fission through activation of DNM1L. May be involved in peroxisome organization.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The authors observed localization of TMEM135 on mitochondria, and imbalance of mitochondrial fission and fusion in mutant Tmem135 as well as Tmem135 overexpressing cells, indicating that TMEM135 is involved in the regulation of mitochondrial dynamics. PMID: 27863209
  2. TMEM135 integrates biological processes involving fat metabolism and energy expenditure in both the worm (invertebrates) and in mammalian organisms PMID: 21151927
Subcellular Location
Mitochondrion membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Peroxisome membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
