Target Background

Function
Catalyzes the interconversion between UDP-glucose and UDP-galactose. Cooperates with UGE3 in pollen development and with UGE4 in cell wall carbohydrate biosynthesis and growth.
Gene References into Functions
  1. UGE2 and UGE4 influence growth and cell wall carbohydrate biosynthesis throughout the plant, UGE3 is specialized for pollen development, and UGE1 and UGE5 might act in stress situations. PMID: 17496119
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm.
Protein Families
NAD(P)-dependent epimerase/dehydratase family
Tissue Specificity
Ubiquitous. Most highly expressed in stems and flowers.
