Target Background

Function
Mediates the exchange of external hexose 6-phosphate and internal inorganic phosphate. Can transport glucose-6-phosphate, fructose-6-phosphate and mannose-6-phosphate. Also catalyzes the neutral exchange of internal and external phosphate.
Gene References into Functions
  1. eduction of uhpT function is largely responsible for the reduced sensitivity to FOM in clinical isolates that have not acquired FOM-modifying genes or mutations in murA. PMID: 28197413
  2. the Asp388-Lys391 ion pair acts normally as a filter that prevents substrates lacking a proton that can be donated from occupying the UhpT active site. PMID: 15556940
Subcellular Location
Cell inner membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
Major facilitator superfamily, Organophosphate:Pi antiporter (OPA) (TC 2.A.1.4) family
