Target Background

Function
Essential sugar transporter required for the transport of UDP-galactose and UDP-glucose from the cytoplasm into the Golgi and the endoplasmic reticulum, to ensure quality control of protein folding. Essential for pollen development and involved in embryo sac progress.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Biochemical analysis in both AtUTr1 and AtUTr3 mutants indicates that uptake of UDP-glucose into the endoplasmic reticulum is mostly driven by these two transporters. PMID: 19906043
  2. it is proposed that in A. thaliana, AtUTr1 is the UDP-glucose transporter involved in quality control in the endoplasmic reticulum PMID: 16467298
Subcellular Location
Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
Nucleotide-sugar transporter family, UDP-galactose:UMP antiporter (TC 2.A.7.11) subfamily
