Target Background

Function
Glycoside hydrolase releasing xylosyl residues from xyloglucan oligosaccharides at the non-reducing end. Has alpha-xylosidase activity against xylan oligosaccharides. Also has alpha-glucosidase activity against p-nitrophenyl-alpha-D-glucopyranoside. No activity against p-nitrophenyl-D-xyloside.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The data support the hypothesis that AXY3/XYL1 is an essential component of the apoplastic xyloglucan degradation machinery. PMID: 21170548
  2. Organ elongation is affected in alpha-xylosidase deficient plants, and xyloglucan oligosaccharides accumulate in the growth medium. PMID: 20801759
Subcellular Location
Secreted, cell wall. Secreted, extracellular space, apoplast.
Protein Families
Glycosyl hydrolase 31 family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in roots, stems, leaves, flowers and siliques. Expressed in cell types undergoing cell wall modifications, including trichomes, vasculature, stomata, and elongating anther filaments. Not detected in pollen.
