Target Background

Function
Together with CGR3, required for homogalacturonan pectins (HG) methylesterification in the Golgi apparatus prior to integration into cell walls, essential for general growth and development. Promotes rosette growth. Impacts carbon (C) partitioning, photosynthesis and respiration efficiency by influencing leaf mesophyll cell walls morphology and physiology; pectin methylesterification modulates both expansion and positioning of cells in leaves, probably by changing cell walls plasticity.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Plant growth was enhanced in the CGR2 overexpression line but reduced in the cgr2/3 mutant. This variation in plant growth was as a result of differences in carbon partitioning and not as a result of changes in photosynthetic rate per unit leaf area. [CGR2] PMID: 27208234
Subcellular Location
Golgi apparatus membrane; Single-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
Class I-like SAM-binding methyltransferase superfamily
