Target Background

Function
Single strand-specific metallo-endoribonuclease involved in late-stage 70S ribosome quality control and in maturation of the 3' terminus of the 16S rRNA. Acts together with the RNase R to eliminate defective 70S ribosomes, but not properly matured 70S ribosomes or individual subunits, by a process mediated specifically by the 30S ribosomal subunit. Involved in the processing of 16S, 23S and 5S rRNAs, with a particularly strong effect on maturation at both the 5'- and 3'-ends of 16S rRNA as well as maturation of the 5'-end of 23S and 5S rRNAs.
Gene References into Functions
  1. This work provides the first evidence that YbeY is recruited to the ribosome through interaction with proteins involved in ribosome biogenesis (i.e., ribosomal protein S11, Era). PMID: 27834201
  2. This observation suggests that the function of HuYbeY in human cells is likely regulated through specific interactions with partner proteins similarly to the way YbeY is regulated in bacteria. PMID: 28153719
  3. evidence which tie YbeY to the transcription antitermination process PMID: 23638028
  4. Deletion of ybeY strongly affects the maturation of rRNA, and causes striking defects in ribosome function including decreased ribosome activity, reduced translational fidelity and altered translation initiation factor binding. PMID: 20807199
  5. Data show that the in vitro activity of the translation machinery of ybeY deletion mutants is significantly lower than that of the wild type. PMID: 20639334
  6. ybeY protein from Escherichia coli is a metalloprotein PMID: 16511207
  7. The authors provide evidence that YbeY, a conserved heat shock protein with unknown function, is involved in the translation process. PMID: 19181801
