Target Background

Function
This pseudogene is the C-terminal fragment of low activity DNA endonuclease RpnD which probably yields 3'-hydroxyl ends. The intact protein can be seen in this entry (AC B7NGZ6). Expression of the repaired protein increases the frequency of recA-independent recombination, but also decreases viability probably via DNA damage; in a RecA strain expression has no effect on viability but does induce the SOS repair response. May play a role in horizontal gene transfer.
