Target Background

Function
Forms a receptor complex together with receptor ilcr-1, which upon activation acts as a modulator of neuronal activity. Binding of the ligand ilc-17.1 to the ilcr-1/2 receptor complex triggers a signaling cascade that activates the downsteam signaling components actl-1, pik-1 and nfki-1, and results in increased neuronal activity in RMG interneurons in response to input from oxygen-sensing neurons. This leads to increased animal movement and promotes aggregation behavior.
Gene References into Functions
  1. EGL-15 and CLR-1 act in the hypodermis to regulate fluid homeostasis in worms PMID: 15115754
  2. Caenorhabditis elegans fibroblast growth factor receptor EGL-15 expression is required within epidermal cells and the substratum for most outgrowing axons, for appropriate outgrowth of specific axon classes to their target area. PMID: 15134634
  3. clr-1 encodes a transmembrane receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase (RPTP) that functions in AVM to inhibit signaling through the DCC family receptor UNC-40 and its effector, UNC-34/enabled PMID: 15232111
Subcellular Location
Cell membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein.
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in most neurons, and in pharyngeal muscle.
