Target Background

Function
In vitro phosphorylates phosphatidylglycerol but not diacylglycerol; the in vivo substrate is unknown.
Gene References into Functions
  1. yegS is a gene encoding a 32 kDa cytosolic protein with unknown function but with strong sequence homology to a family of uncharacterized eukaryotic non-protein kinases: diacylglycerol kinases. We suggest that there are two protein molecules in the unit. PMID: 16511327
  2. YegS is related to the human lipid kinases. The crystal structure reveals structural similarity to NAD kinases, and contain a novel metal binding site. Biochemical data suggest that YegS is a phosphatidylglycerol kinase. PMID: 17351295
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm.
Protein Families
Diacylglycerol/lipid kinase family, YegS lipid kinase subfamily
