Free triiodothyronine (FT3) is the unbound, metabolically active form of the thyroid hormone triiodothyronine that circulates freely in the bloodstream. FT3 is the most potent thyroid hormone and regulates cellular metabolism, protein synthesis, and energy production throughout the body. Unlike total T3 measurements, FT3 levels provide a more accurate picture of thyroid function since thyroid-binding protein variations don't affect them.
