Sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) is a glycoprotein produced primarily in the liver that serves as the major transport protein for sex hormones including testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, and estradiol in blood circulation. SHBG regulates the bioavailability of these steroid hormones by binding them with high affinity, thereby controlling the amount of free, biologically active hormone available to target tissues. Changes in SHBG levels can significantly impact hormone homeostasis and are associated with various physiological and pathological conditions. This makes SHBG an important biomarker in endocrine research and reproductive biology studies.
The Rat sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) ELISA kit (CSB-E12118r) provides quantitative measurement of SHBG in Rattus norvegicus samples. This competitive assay works with multiple sample types including serum, plasma, cell culture supernates, tissue homogenates, and cell lysates. The kit offers a detection range of 375 ng/mL to 6000 ng/mL with a sensitivity of 375 ng/mL. The assay requires 50-100 μL sample volume, operates with detection at 450 nm wavelength, and can be completed within 1-5 hours.

This ELISA kit has been used in endocrine research to quantify sex hormone-binding globulin levels in rat serum samples. Researchers have applied the assay as part of comprehensive hormonal profiling studies examining multiple sex hormones and their binding proteins in laboratory animal models.
• Endocrine profiling: Used alongside other hormone assays to measure sex hormone-binding globulin concentrations as part of broader hormonal panel evaluations in rat studies
• Serum biomarker analysis: Applied for quantitative measurement of sex hormone-binding globulin in rat serum samples to study hormonal regulation and binding protein dynamics
• Reproductive endocrinology research: Used in studies examining sex hormone metabolism and transport protein levels in experimental animal models
