Target Background

Function
Converts 1-acyl-sn-glycerol-3-phosphate (lysophosphatidic acid or LPA) into 1,2-diacyl-sn-glycerol-3-phosphate (phosphatidic acid or PA) by incorporating an acyl moiety at the sn-2 position of the glycerol backbone.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The differences in expression of AGPAT1 in human monocytes and macrophages, and its effect on platelet-activating factor in these cells is reported. PMID: 16571775
  2. Results suggest that motifs II and III of 1-acyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphate acyltransferase 1 are involved in lysophosphatidic acid binding, and motifs I and IV are involved in acyl-CoA binding. PMID: 17707131
Subcellular Location
Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
1-acyl-sn-glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase family
Tissue Specificity
Widely expressed. Expressed in adipose tissue and at high levels in testis and pancreas. Expressed at lower levels in tissues such as heart, brain, placenta, kidney, lung, spleen, thymus, prostate, ovary, intestine, colon, leukocyte and liver.
