Target Background

Function
Translation factor necessary for the incorporation of selenocysteine into proteins. It probably replaces EF-Tu for the insertion of selenocysteine directed by the UGA codon. SelB binds GTP and GDP.

  2. EEFSEC, which encodes selenocysteine-tRNA specific eukaryotic elongation factor, participates in the incorporation of selenocysteine into selenoproteins. Selenoproteins serve critical cellular homeostatic functions in maintaining redox status and antioxidant defenses, as well as modulating inflammatory responses.
