Description

Immunization of rabbits with the Australian bat lyssavirus (ABLV) glycoprotein (G) produces the anti-serum, which is purified through antigen affinity to get the anti-ABLV G antibody. This G antibody occurs as an IgG. It can react with human samples. And it is available for use in ELISA analysis. The single fusogenic envelope glycoprotein (G), a key determinant of viral neurotropic and neurovirulent properties, mediates the pH-dependent fusion between ABLV and host cells.

Target Background

Function
Attaches the virus to host cellular receptor, inducing endocytosis of the virion. In the endosome, the acidic pH induces conformational changes in the glycoprotein trimer, which trigger fusion between virus and cell membrane. There is convincing in vitro evidence that the muscular form of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR), the neuronal cell adhesion molecule (NCAM), and the p75 neurotrophin receptor (p75NTR) bind glycoprotein and thereby facilitate rabies virus entry into cells.
Subcellular Location
Virion membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein.
Protein Families
Lyssavirus glycoprotein family
