  • IHC image of CSB-PA873700LA01HU diluted at 1:200 and staining in paraffin-embedded human skeletal muscle tissue performed on a Leica BondTM system. After dewaxing and hydration, antigen retrieval was mediated by high pressure in a citrate buffer (pH 6.0). Section was blocked with 10% normal goat serum 30min at RT. Then primary antibody (1% BSA) was incubated at 4°C overnight. The primary is detected by a biotinylated secondary antibody and visualized using an HRP conjugated SP system.

Target Background

Function
Mitochondrial iron transporter that specifically mediates iron uptake in developing erythroid cells, thereby playing an essential role in heme biosynthesis. The iron delivered into the mitochondria, presumably as Fe(2+), is then probably delivered to ferrochelatase to catalyze Fe(2+) incorporation into protoprophyrin IX to make heme.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The findings of this study implicate that the SCL25A37 is a major depressive disorder susceptibility gene whose expression may influence major depressive disorder risk. PMID: 27643475
  2. Data show that abnormal MFRN1 expression can contribute to erythropoietic protoporphyria phenotype in some patients, probably by causing a reduction in FECH activity. PMID: 21627978
  3. hypoxia induces the expression of mitoferrin mRNAs through separate mechanisms in erythroid cells PMID: 19187226
Subcellular Location
Mitochondrion inner membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
Mitochondrial carrier (TC 2.A.29) family
