Form
Liquid or Lyophilized powder
Note: We will preferentially ship the format that we have in stock, however, if you have any special requirement for the format, please remark your requirement when placing the order, we will prepare according to your demand.
Buffer
If the delivery form is liquid, the default storage buffer is Tris/PBS-based buffer, 5%-50% glycerol. If the delivery form is lyophilized powder, the buffer before lyophilization is Tris/PBS-based buffer, 6% Trehalose, pH 8.0.
Reconstitution
We recommend that this vial be briefly centrifuged prior to opening to bring the contents to the bottom. Please reconstitute protein in deionized sterile water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL.We recommend to add 5-50% of glycerol (final concentration) and aliquot for long-term storage at -20℃/-80℃. Our default final concentration of glycerol is 50%. Customers could use it as reference.
Troubleshooting and FAQs
Storage Condition
Store at -20°C/-80°C upon receipt, aliquoting is necessary for mutiple use. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Shelf Life
The shelf life is related to many factors, storage state, buffer ingredients, storage temperature and the stability of the protein itself.
Generally, the shelf life of liquid form is 6 months at -20°C/-80°C. The shelf life of lyophilized form is 12 months at -20°C/-80°C.
Lead Time
Basically, we can dispatch the products out in 3-7 working days after receiving your orders. Delivery time may differ from different purchasing way or location, please kindly consult your local distributors for specific delivery time.
Notes
Repeated freezing and thawing is not recommended. Store working aliquots at 4℃ for up to one week.

Target Background

Function
Binds heavy metals. Contains three zinc and three copper atoms per polypeptide chain and only a negligible amount of cadmium. Inhibits survival and neurite formation of cortical neurons in vitro.
Gene References into Functions
  1. After passing middle age we observe a huge increase in MT3 transcripts in both cortical and hippocampal areas, while the MT1/2 mRNA content increases slightly PMID: 27939232
  2. Neuroprotective effect of propofol in hypoxia-reoxygenation injury of hippocampal neurons may be via upregulation of Mt3. PMID: 22367221
  3. metallothionein III, in the presence of brain extract, is a potent inhibitor of neurite sprouting, and may be involved in abnormal sprouting potentially underlying both Alzheimer's disease and epilepsy. PMID: 12460603
  4. Systemic application of kainic acid (KA) rapidly induced MT-I and II expression in neurons localized in hippocampal formation, piriform cortex, and amygdala of the adult rat, whereas the level of MT-III mRNA was decreased in KA-vulnerable areas PMID: 12692462
  5. A recombinant adenoviral vector encoding GIF prevents degeneration of motoneurons in rats after facial nerve avulsion. PMID: 14625437
  6. differential display proteomics techniques identified ten significantly and reproducibly changed proteins induced by transient transfection of MT-3 in PC-12 cells; their functional implications are discussed PMID: 14998173
  7. A large amount of free zinc ions can be sequestered by metallothionein-3 in the hippocampus of old rats, leading to impaired zinc-dependent functions in the ageing brain. PMID: 15130702
  8. analysis of the epitope of neuronal growth inhibitory factor (GIF) PMID: 16336778
  9. mutation of MT3 at Glu23 may alter the NO metabolism and/or affect zinc homeostasis in brain, thus altering the neuronal growth inhibitory activity PMID: 16945328
  10. The localization of MT-3 in peripheral organs outside the brain suggests that MT-3 has roles in these tissues besides its role in growth inhibition of neurites. PMID: 18479819
