Target Background

Function

Retinol dehydrogenase with a clear preference for NADP. Displays high activity towards 9-cis, 11-cis and all-trans-retinol. Shows a very weak activity towards 13-cis-retinol. Has no activity towards steroid.

kinetic constants and expression pattern of PAN2 suggest that it is likely to function as a reductase in vivo and might contribute to the reduction of retinaldehyde to retinol in most human tissues PMID: 12435598
