Target Background

Function
Major urate transporter involved in renal reabsorption of urate and helps to maintain blood levels of uric acid. Translocates urate over the apical membrane of proximal tubular cells in exchange for organic anions or chloride ions.
Gene References into Functions

Human-rat transporter chimeras revealed that human URAT1 serine-35, phenylalanine-365 and isoleucine-481 are necessary and sufficient to provide up to a 100-fold increase in affinity for inhibitors.
