Target Background

Function
Neuronal phosphoprotein that coats synaptic vesicles, binds to the cytoskeleton, and is believed to function in the regulation of neurotransmitter release. May play a role in noradrenaline secretion by sympathetic neurons.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Both GABRA6 and Synapsin II polymorphisms are important risk factors for the development of idiopathic generalized epilepsy in a South Indian population. PMID: 25088614
  2. Results identify SYN2 as a novel predisposing gene for autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and strengthen the hypothesis that a disturbance of synaptic homeostasis underlies ASD. PMID: 23956174
  3. Synapsin II is involved in the molecular pathway of lithium treatment in bipolar disorder PMID: 22384280
  4. SYN2 rs3773364 A>G polymorphism is not a risk factor for susceptibility to epilepsy in this case-control study and meta-analysis. PMID: 21465568
  5. Results from our study indicate the involvement of SYN2 gene polymorphism in conferring risk to epilepsy; however, the genetic variant does not seem to modulate drug-response in epilepsy pharmacotherapy. PMID: 20034013
  6. This study suggests a positive association between synapsin II and schizophrenia, implying that synapsin II is involved in the etiology of schizophrenia. PMID: 15271586
  7. synapsin II variants are associated with susceptibility to schizophrenia. PMID: 15449241
  8. Syn2 is likely to be involved in the etiology or pathogenesis of schizophrenia. PMID: 17766091
  9. A case-control study with synapsin II was conducted in 506 bipolar disorder patients and 507 healthy individuals from the Han Chinese population. No association was found in this study. PMID: 19665806
