Target Background

Function

Z-ring accessory protein involved in the initiation of plastid division and division site placement (might functionally replace bacterial MinC). May control the rate of chloroplast expansion. Seems to influence stromule (stroma-filled tubular extensions of the plastid envelope membrane) length and frequency.

ARC3 is a stromal Z-ring accessory protein that interacts specifically with AtFtsZ1, and is essential for plastid division. [ARC3] PMID: 17304239
FtsZ1-FtsZ2-ARC3-ARC6 complex represents an unpolymerized IEM-associated pool of FtsZ that contributes to the dynamic regulation of Z-ring assembly and remodelling at the plastid division site in vivo. [ARC3] PMID: 18284374
In hypocotyls, the effects of the arc3 and arc6 mutations on stromule length and frequency are independent of changes in plastid division. [ARC3] PMID: 18764889
Arc3 encodes a chloroplast division factor and arc mutants have large but fewer chloroplasts which have an effect on both the composition and structure of the photosynthetic apparatus. [ARC3] PMID: 16170638
