Target Background

Function
Mediator of sterol homeostasis involved in sterol uptake, trafficking and distribution into membranes. Regulates also the sphingolipid metabolism. Required for growth during anaerobiosis and sterol uptake.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The most liposensitive yeast strain arose due to deletion of the "ARE2 required for viability" (ARV1) gene, encoding an evolutionarily conserved, potential lipid transporter that localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. PMID: 24273168
  2. Arv1 deficiency affects structure and homeostasis of plasma and ER membranes, and does not affect sterol transport between ER and plasma membrane. PMID: 23668914
  3. In the presence of drug, S. cerevisiae cells lacking Arv1 are unable to induce ERG gene expression, have an altered pleiotrophic drug response, and are defective in multi-drug resistance efflux pump expression PMID: 22142782
  4. Yeast Arv1p is an important protein required for the delivery of an early gycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)intermediate, GlcN-acylPI, to the first mannosyltransferase of GPI synthesis in the endoplasmic reticulum lumen. PMID: 18287539
Subcellular Location
Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Golgi apparatus membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
