Target Background

Function
Positive regulator of brassinosteroid (BR) signaling. Transcription factor that activates target gene expression by binding specifically to the DNA sequence 5'-CANNTG-3'(E box) through its N-terminal domain. Can bind individually to the promoter as a homodimer or synergistically as a heterodimer with BIM1, BIM2 or BIM3. The C-terminal domain is probably involved in transcriptional activation. Recruits the transcription elongation factor IWS1 to control BR-regulated gene expression. Forms a trimeric complex with IWS1 and ASHH2/SDG8 to regulate BR-regulated gene expression. Promotes quiescent center (QC) self-renewal by cell divisions in the primary root. Binds to the E-boxes of the BRAVO promoter to repress its expression.

  2. BES1 and BZR1 are brassinolide-targeted genes in Arabidopsis thaliana. PMID: 28124247
  3. regulates the localization of the brassinosteroid receptor BRL3 within the provascular tissue of primary root PMID: 27511026
  4. SINA of Arabidopsis thaliana (SINATs) specifically interact with dephosphorylated BES1 and mediate its ubiquitination and degradation. PMID: 28399399
  5. BES1-L is a more important isoform of BES1 in Arabidopsis and may have contributed to the evolution and expansion of A. thaliana. PMID: 25649439
  6. propose that the environmentally controlled developmental switch from deep to shallow root architecture involves reductions in BZR1 and BES1/BZR2 levels in the nucleus, which likely play key roles in plant adaptation to phosphate-deficient environments PMID: 25136063
  7. role in regulation of glucosinolate biosynthesis by brassinosteroids PMID: 23580754
