Target Background

Function

Functions in the engulfment of cell corpses during embryonic programmed cell death to translocate molecules that mediate homotypic adhesion between cell surfaces of the dying and engulfing cells.

The results reveal the existence of a WLDS/Nmnat-independent axonal degeneration pathway in C. elegans, conservation of the axonal clearance machinery, and a function for CED-7 and NRF-5 in this process. PMID: 26876181
CED-7 and TTR-52 may promote the efflux of phosphatidylserine (PS) from apoptotic cells through the generation of extracellular PS vesicles, which lead to exoplasmic leaflet (exPS) expression on phagocytes via TTR-52 and CED-1 to facilitate cell corpse clearance. PMID: 22727702
Review. CED-7 is akey player in engulfment. Its mode of action is unusual in the panorama of engulfment receptors since they act as lipid transporters. Loss of CED-7 has phenotypic consequences exclusively on engulfment. PMID: 16471259
