Target Background

Function
Peroxisomal citrate synthase involved in the citrate homeostasis. Catalyzes the condensation of acetyl coenzyme A and oxaloacetate to form citrate. Citrate synthase is the rate-limiting enzyme of the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle (Probable).
Gene References into Functions
  1. study tested the ability of all nine S. cerevisiae basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) proteins to regulate the CIT2 gene PMID: 20162531
  2. overexpression of RAS2 suppresses the growth defect of the glyoxylate cycle citrate synthase mutant, cit2Delta PMID: 16832579
  3. The minimum ranges of the cryptic signals for mitochondrial and peroxisomal targeting of Cit2 were shown to consist of the first 15- and 10-amino acid N-terminal segments, respectively PMID: 16877773
  4. Overexpression of CIT2 causes a twofold overexpression of fumarase and an alteration in fumarase distribution. PMID: 19415796
