Target Background

Function
Sodium-dependent dopamine transporter which terminates the action of dopamine by its high affinity sodium-dependent reuptake into presynaptic terminals. Also transports tyramine and norepinephrine, shows less efficient transport of octopamine and does not transport serotonin. Plays a role in the regulation of the rest/activity cycle.
Gene References into Functions
  1. When DAT, a member of the post-feeding reward system, is either overexpressed or reduced via mutation, Drosophila has increased sensitivity to amino acid starvation. PMID: 26909968
  2. X-ray crystal structures of dopamine transporter (DAT) bound to its substrate dopamine, a substrate analogue 3,4-dichlorophenethylamine, the psychostimulants d-amphetamine and methamphetamine, or to cocaine and cocaine analogues PMID: 25970245
  3. Phosphatidylinositol-4,5-Biphosphate regulates psychostimulant behaviors through its interaction with a membrane dopamine transporter. PMID: 24880859
  4. the dopamine transporter X ray structure reveals the molecular basis for antidepressant action on sodium-coupled neurotransmitter symporters and elucidates critical elements of eukaryotic transporter structure and modulation by lipids PMID: 24037379
  5. Description of the kinetics of endogenous and exogenous dopamine clearance by DAT, measured in a Drosophila larval CNS. PMID: 23600464
  6. The disulfide bond between extracellular loop 2 cysteines is required for DAT biosynthesis and/or its delivery to the cell surface. PMID: 17131045
