Target Background

Function
Required for precise axonal bifurcation in mushroom body neurons by suppressing ectopic bifurcation and regulating the guidance of sister axons. Acts downstream of the serine/threonine-protein kinase Bsk to modulate the direction of axon projection. May play a role in fatty acid metabolism.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Here we show that DISCO interacting protein 2 (DIP2) is required for the accurate direction of axonal guidance. PMID: 28396149
  2. These results reveal a function of DIP2 in the developing nervous system and provide a potential functional relationship between fatty acid metabolism and axon morphogenesis. PMID: 27908785
Subcellular Location
Cell membrane; Peripheral membrane protein.
Protein Families
DIP2 family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in the developing nervous system. Ubiquitously expressed in the developing brain. Within the mushroom body, a higher level is detected in the core of lobes and peduncle in the late third instar larva. Detected in whole mushroom body neuron struc
