Target Background

Function
Receptor for dopamine. The activity of this receptor is mediated by G proteins which activate adenylyl cyclase. In terms of antagonist responses, would be classed with the D1-like dopamine receptor group.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Study established a high-throughput learning assay that used real-time computer vision software for behavioral tracking and optogenetics for stimulation of the C. elegans polymodal nociceptor, ASH. Food and dopamine signaling slowed habituation downstream from ASH excitation via D1-like dopamine receptor, DOP-4. Assay allows for large-scale genetic and drug screens investigating mechanisms of nociception modulation. PMID: 27634141
  2. DOP-4 shows high sequence homology with D1-like dopamine receptors unique to invertebrates, distinct from mammalian D1-like dopamine receptors. Reporter gene assay showed that DOP-4 stimulates cAMP accumulation in response to dopamine stimulation. PMID: 16001968
Subcellular Location
Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
G-protein coupled receptor 1 family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in pharyngeal neurons I1 and I2, neurons ASG, AVL, CAN, PQR, vulva, intestine, rectal glands and rectal epithelial glands. Also expressed in neurons in ray 8 in males.
