Target Background

Function
DNA polymerase III is a complex, multichain enzyme responsible for most of the replicative synthesis in bacteria. The epsilon subunit contain the editing function and is a proofreading 3'-5' exonuclease. Contacts both the beta sliding clamp (dnaN) and the polymerase subunit (dnaE), stabilizing their interaction.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Loss of the 3' proofreading exonuclease activity of the replicative DNA polymerase III greatly elevates quasipalindrome-associated mutagenesis. PMID: 28605670
  2. evidence that hydrophobic interactions have a predominant contribution to the stability of the complex and that the association of epsilon186 with theta stabilized epsilon186 PMID: 15459336
  3. Data shows that the proofreading domain of epsilon subunit is connected to the alpha subunit via a flexible linker peptide comprising over 20 residues. PMID: 18663010
