Description

The recombinant ERVK-5 protein (2-667aa) is injected into the rabbit to stimulate an immune response. Over a period of time, the rabbit's immune system generates antibodies against the ERVK-5 protein. Once a sufficient antibody response has been generated in the rabbit, a sample of serum is collected to obtain the polyclonal antibodies. The collected serum containing the polyclonal ERVK-5 antibody is subjected to affinity chromatography. The functionality of the ERVK-5 polyclonal antibody is evaluated in ELISA and WB applications. This ERVK-5 antibody can react specifically with the human ERVK-5 protein.

Target Background

Function
The products of the Gag polyproteins of infectious retroviruses perform highly complex orchestrated tasks during the assembly, budding, maturation, and infection stages of the viral replication cycle. During viral assembly, the proteins form membrane associations and self-associations that ultimately result in budding of an immature virion from the infected cell. Gag precursors also function during viral assembly to selectively bind and package two plus strands of genomic RNA. Endogenous Gag proteins may have kept, lost or modified their original function during evolution.
Subcellular Location
Cell membrane; Lipid-anchor.
Protein Families
Beta type-B retroviral Gag protein family, HERV class-II K(HML-2) gag subfamily
