Target Background

Function
Involved in ATP-dependent DNA-unwinding in a 3' to 5' direction, and ATP-ase activities stimulated by the single-stranded DNA-binding protein ssb1. Essential for viability and normal growth of stationary phase cells and in the absence of either srs2 or rqh1 DNA helicase. Involved in DNA recombination repair of strand breaks and stalled or collapsed replication forks, on the rhp51-dependent pathway: promotes rhp51 filament dissolution from stalled forks, thereby inhibiting homologous recombination and preventing excessive recombination. Ubiquitination and DNA helicase activities are essential for controlling rhp51-dependent recombination in the absence of rad22. Plays a role in the processing of toxic recombination intermediates. Promotes proper chromosome segregation.
Gene References into Functions
  1. we tentatively suggest that Fbh1 might also have a pro-recombination role in vivo, because the Fbh1-Skp1 complex stimulated Rad51-mediated strand exchange in vitro PMID: 25165823
  2. SCF/Skp1 together with Fbh1 is likely to function in the resolution of meiotic recombination intermediates, thereby ensuring proper chromosome segregation. PMID: 22292001
  3. Fbh1 also serves a vital meiotic role in fission yeast to promote normal chromosome segregation. PMID: 21149262
  4. a version of Atf1 lacking all intact MAPK sites still interacts with Fbh1 upon stress, indicating that the association between the F box protein and substrate is disrupted by stress-induced phosphorylation PMID: 19836238
  5. The F-box DNA helicase Fbh1 functions in recombination repair in the Rhp51 pathway downstream of Rhp51 and Rhp57, and plays a role in processing recombination intermediates. [fbh1] PMID: 16135799
  6. Mediator proteins are required to enable Rhp51 to function in the presence of Fbh1. Analysis of fbh1 mutant alleles suggests that both the F-box and helicase activities of Fbh1 contribute to controlling Rhp51 action. [fbh1] PMID: 16135800
  7. Data show that the F-box DNA helicase (Fbh1) functions in direct opposition to the Rad52 orthologue Rad22 to curb Rad51 loading onto DNA in fission yeast. PMID: 19546232
