Description

The FMRFaR polyclonal antibody is produced by immunizing a rabbit with a recombinant Drosophila melanogaster (Fruit fly) FMRFaR protein (amino acids 398-549). The FMRFaR antibody is extracted from the rabbit serum and then purified using affinity chromatography. The functionality of the FMRFaR antibody is assessed through ELISA and WB assays, confirming its proficiency in recognizing the Drosophila melanogaster (Fruit fly) FMRFaR protein in experimental settings.

The FMRFaR protein in Drosophila melanogaster functions as a G protein-coupled receptor responsive to neuropeptides containing the FMRFamide sequence. Neuropeptides binding to FMRFaR activate intracellular signaling pathways, influencing diverse physiological processes in fruit flies, including the modulation of feeding behavior such as food intake and digestion. Additionally, FMRFaR is implicated in reproductive processes, playing a role in the regulation of reproductive behaviors and fertility.

Target Background

Function
A receptor for the FMRFamide peptides. Reacts with high affinity to FMRFamide and intrinsic FMRFamide-related peptides. By stimulating intracellular calcium signaling through the inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor, Itpr, in dopaminergic neurons, may be involved in the maintenance of neuronal excitability and in the regulation of flight bout duration.
Gene References into Functions
  1. molecular cloning and expression of FMRFamide receptor PMID: 12218185
  2. The functionally active Drosophila melanogaster FMRFamide receptor (DrmFMRFa-R)was cloned and characterized. It is the first functionally active FMRFamide G protein-coupled receptor described in invertebrates to date. PMID: 12438685
Subcellular Location
Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
G-protein coupled receptor 1 family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in ovaries, heads and bodies. Expressed in dopaminergic neurons.
