Target Background

Function
Regulates the expression of several genes involved in acid resistance. Required for the expression of gadA and gadBC, among others, regardless of media or growth conditions. Binds directly to the 20 bp GAD box found in the control regions of both loci.
Gene References into Functions
  1. These results show how GadEWX simultaneously coordinate many cellular processes to produce the overall response of E. coli to acid stress. PMID: 26258987
  2. These results suggest that overexpression of ArrS positively regulates gadE expression in a post-transcriptional manner. PMID: 24600026
  3. The AraC-family regulators GadX and GadW, previously found to activate gadA/BC in vitro, are now shown in vivo to directly activate gadE expression, which, in turn, activates the gadA/BC genes. PMID: 17660422
  4. The effects of sodium on the acid resistance system of GadA/BC expression appears to be through the modulation of GadX and GadW activity, which in turn controls GadE expression. PMID: 17768258
  5. Three gadE promoters are located within the sensory integration region. PMID: 19220752
