Target Background

Function
In the 1-cell embryo, probably together with gpr-2, controls nuclear rotation and spindle elongation during mitosis. Complex of gpr-1 and gpr-2, in association with lin-5, activates G-protein signaling to affect mitotic spindle force. Polarity determinants (par genes) may regulate lin-5/gpr-1/gpr-2/goa-1 locally to create the asymmetric forces that drive spindle movement.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Progeny of these animals (F2) inherit either only F0 maternal or only F0 paternal chromosomes, and thus descend from only either of their grandparents' gametes. PMID: 27479498
  2. GPR-1/2 can sense mechanical properties of the cortex, which may be important for GPR-1/2 function regulating spindle positioning and cytokinesis. PMID: 22927044
  3. Data demonstrate that GPB-1 depletion results in the loss of GPR-1/2 asymmetry during mitosis. PMID: 21652650
  4. Data suggest a mechanism in which RIC-8 favors generation of Galpha free from Gbetagamma and enables GPR-1/2 to mediate asymmetric cell division. PMID: 15479639
  5. Dynamic localization of gpr-1 to cell cortex forces generation of domains during spindle positioning. PMID: 18234174
