Target Background

Function
Required for the periodic repression of histone gene transcription during the cell cycle. Cooperates with ASF1A to promote replication-independent chromatin assembly. Required for the formation of senescence-associated heterochromatin foci (SAHF) and efficient senescence-associated cell cycle exit.
Gene References into Functions
  1. These data suggest that elimination of HIRA produces a hypertrophic response in skeletal muscle and leaves myofibers susceptible to stress-induced degeneration. PMID: 28600325
  2. transcriptional regulation by HIRA is crucial for cardiomyocyte homeostasis. PMID: 26935106
  3. Data show that Hira is important to mediates Histone H3/H4 replacement during mouse oogenesis which is required for normal 5mC deposition in oocytes. Its loss results in chromatin abnormalities and extensive oocyte loss. PMID: 26549683
  4. Hira-mediated H3.3 incorporation is essential for parental genome reprogramming and reveal an unexpected role for rRNA transcription in the mouse zygote PMID: 25087892
  5. WHSC1 links transcription elongation to HIRA-mediated histone H3.3 deposition. PMID: 23921552
  6. HIRA is an essential factor for muscle development by establishing MyoD activation in myotubes. PMID: 21173268
  7. Targeted mutagenesis of the Hira gene results in gastrulation defects and patterning abnormalities of mesoendodermal derivatives prior to early embryonic lethality PMID: 11884616
