Target Background

Function

Methylesterase that efficiently and specifically hydrolyzes methyl indole-3-acetic acid (MeIAA) to IAA (auxin). MeIAA is believed to be an inactive form of auxin that needs to be demethylated to exert a biological effect.

Gene References into Functions

The roots of Arabidopsis plants carrying T-DNA insertions in this putative MeIAA esterase gene displayed significantly decreased sensitivity to MeIAA compared with wild-type roots while remaining as sensitive to free IAA as wild-type roots. PMID: 18467465
