Description

The MURJ antibody is produced by immunizing rabbits with the recombinant MURJ protein from Escherichia coli (strain K12). It undergoes purification through protein A/G affinity chromatography. This MURJ antibody is suitable for detecting the MURJ protein of Escherichia coli (strain K12) in ELISA and WB experiments.

The Escherichia coli (strain K12) MURJ protein belongs to the Mur ligase family and is involved in the biosynthesis of peptidoglycan, a major component of the bacterial cell wall. It is believed to play a role in the synthesis of lipid intermediates required for peptidoglycan assembly.

Involved in peptidoglycan biosynthesis. Transports lipid-linked peptidoglycan precursors from the inner to the outer leaflet of the cytoplasmic membrane.

High-throughput mutagenesis and next-generation sequencing assessed mutational tolerance at every amino acid in the protein, providing a detailed functional and structural map for the enzyme and identifying sites for inhibitor development. A rocker-switch model for lipid II transport was supported. PMID: 29891673
From these data, authors hypothesize that some charged residues in the cavity region of MurJ homologs are required for interaction with lipid II and/or energy coupling during transport. PMID: 25225268
