Target Background

Function
Netrins control guidance of CNS commissural axons at the midline and peripheral motor axons to their target muscles.
Gene References into Functions
  1. mutation of mushroom body defect (mud) dramatically enhances the phenotype of Netrin or frazzled mutants, resulting in many more axons failing to cross the midline, although mutations in mud alone have little effect. PMID: 26893348
  2. Contact-mediated cell adhesion via Fmi acts in addition to the Net/Fra guidance system during axon pathfinding across the midline, underlining the importance of PCP molecules during vertebrates and invertebrates midline development. PMID: 25440577
  3. adult Drosophila lacking both netrin genes, NetA and NetB, have fertility defects in both sexes together with an inability to fly and reduced viability. PMID: 23977313
  4. In peripodial cells Frazzled is endocytosed and undergoes NetA-dependent degradation, which is required for eversion. PMID: 24225841
  5. These data are the first to show that Netrin and Frazzled regulate the placement of gap junctions presynaptically at a synapse. PMID: 24741033
  6. NetA and semaphorin-1a can specifically promote growth through induction of key cellular growth regulators. PMID: 20162636
  7. Misexpression of Netrin-A in oenocytes, secretory cells that lie ventral to the cap cell, leads to aberrant cap cell morphogenesis, suggesting that Netrin-A acts as an instructive cue to direct the growth of the cap cell process. PMID: 20530550
  8. NETRIN serves as a chemo-attractant while SLIT functions antagonistically to NETRIN as a chemo-repellent during embryonic salivary gland migration parallel to the CNS in Drosophila. PMID: 15950216
  9. before reaching the segmental boundary, the longitudinal axons' responsiveness to Netrin presented on the commissure is suppressed by Roundabout, through counteracting Gq signaling PMID: 16341212
  10. the midline signalling systems Slit/Robo and Netrin/Frazzled are the main molecular mechanisms that underlie dendritic targeting with respect to the midline. PMID: 19771146
  11. the medio-lateral positioning of motoneuron dendrites in the leg neuropil is controlled by the midline signalling systems Slit-Robo and Netrin-Fra. PMID: 19771147
