Target Background

Function
Acts as a component of the auxin efflux carrier. Seems to be involved in the lateral auxin transport system and mediates tropic growth. Coordinated polar localization of PIN3 is directly regulated by the vesicle trafficking process.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Two mechanistically distinct PIN3 polarization events redirect auxin fluxes at different time points of the gravity response: first, gravity-mediated redirection of PIN3-mediated auxin flow toward the lower hypocotyl side, where auxin gradually accumulates and promotes growth, and later PIN3 polarization to the opposite cell side, depleting this auxin maximum to end the bending. PMID: 27773568
  2. Functional interplay between protein kinase CK2 and salicylic acid sustains PIN3 transcriptional expression. PMID: 24547808
  3. asymmetric distribution of auxin is essential for root negative phototropism, and is regulated by blue-light-induced PIN3 polarization PMID: 23888933
  4. Sequential induction of auxin efflux (PIN3) and influx (LAX3) carriers regulates lateral root emergence in Arabidopsis. PMID: 24150423
  5. Arabidopsis thaliana PIN3 auxin transporter is required for the asymmetric auxin distribution for the gravitropic response. PMID: 21569134
  6. The phosphorylation code of PIN3-hydrophilic loop is operational for the determination of PIN3 polarity in the Arabidopsis guard cell. PMID: 22902703
  7. The loss of PIN3 causes a dramatic delay in the onset of Lateral root initiation (LRI) after founder cell (FC) are specified, which can be fully recovered by the expression of PIN3 exclusively in the endodermis. PMID: 23178590
  8. PIN3-mediated auxin gradients participate in pulse-induced phototropism. PMID: 22843667
  9. Mutation of phosphorylation sites caused defects in PIN3-mediated biological processes such as auxin efflux activity, auxin maxima formation, root growth, and root gravitropism. PMID: 22519832
  10. Data show that light polarizes the cellular localization of the auxin efflux carrier PIN3 in hypocotyl endodermis cells, resulting in changes in auxin distribution and differential growth. PMID: 21394084
  11. Data show that pin3 mutants are outcompeted by wild-type neighbors who suppress fitness of pin3-3 by 40%. PMID: 21149713
  12. Cold stress blocks the early phase of gravity response by inhibiting the lateral relocalization of PIN3. PMID: 20040541
  13. NOV is required for cell type-specific expression of PIN3 in the root. PMID: 19880797
  14. findings show that both ARL2 and ARG1 function in a gravity signal transduction pathway with PIN3, an auxin efflux facilitator that is expressed in the statocytes PMID: 18047472
