Target Background

Function
Involved in nucleotide excision repair of DNA damaged with UV light, bulky adducts, or cross-linking agents. Along with RAD10 forms an endonuclease that specifically degrades single-stranded DNA.
Gene References into Functions
  1. One example occurred when yeast lacking RAD1 were exposed to cisplatin, and we characterized this interaction using whole-genome sequencing. Our sequencing results indicate mutagenesis by cisplatin in rad1Delta cells appeared to depend almost entirely on interstrand cross-links at GpCpN motifs. PMID: 28223526
  2. low frequency of translocations observed in rad1-null single mutants PMID: 20012294
  3. interchromosomal crossover recombination with short substrates is severely inhibited in the absence of RAD1 and is relatively insensitive to the presence of mismatches PMID: 16582436
  4. mating-type switching in Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains defective in the Rad1-Rad10-Slx4 complex PMID: 18579504
