Target Background

Function
Required both for recombination and for the repair of DNA damage caused by X-rays. Binds to single and double-stranded DNA, in the presence of magnesium, and exhibits DNA-dependent ATPase activity. Promotes DNA strand annealing and strand exchange via DNA recombinase activity and forms helical nucleoprotein filaments.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Data show that Rad51-dependent homologous recombination (HR) predominates in centromeres. PMID: 28977643
  2. Rad51 and Rad54 are required for gene silencing in centromeres, suggesting that homologous recombination also plays a role in the structure and function of centromeres. PMID: 27697832
  3. spindle assembly checkpoint-dependent prometaphase arrest occurred more frequently in pot1Delta rqh1-hd double mutants than in rqh1-hd single mutants in Rad51-dependent recombination intermediates at telomeres PMID: 24469396
  4. Rad22-Mus81-dependent (Rhp51-independent) pathway is an important mechanism for the repair of DNA damage in fission yeast PMID: 15486206
  5. The recombinase Rad51 forms helical nucleoprotein filaments on single-stranded DNA. PMID: 15899844
  6. Rhp51 action is controlled through an interplay between Fbh1 and the mediator proteins.(Rhp51) PMID: 16135800
  7. Rad51 protein localizes to linear elements. PMID: 16532353
  8. genes rhp51+ and rhp55+ are involved not only in the repair of induced DNA double-strand breaks, but also in the mechanism of mating type switching in fission yeast. PMID: 16756067
  9. fission yeast (Rhp51) and human (hRad51) RecA homologues promote duplex-duplex DNA-strand exchange in vitro PMID: 18256600
  10. Rad22 (the S. pombe Rad52 homolog) and the Swi5-Sfr1 complex have distinct roles for mediating Rhp51 loading onto replication protein A-precoated ssDNA. PMID: 18416603
  11. These data suggest that Rad51 suppresses rearrangements of centromere repeats that result in isochromosome formation. PMID: 18923422
